Job Description:     Pastoral Assistant
Responsible for:     Providing pastoral support and promoting the well-being, attendance, supervision and personal development of students within the school.
Responsible to:     The Deputy Head – Pastoral

Purpose of Role:     The Pastoral Assistant is responsible for using specialist skills to provide pastoral care and support to students. The role involves contacting parents, staff, and students concerning pastoral matters and supporting the development of students' well-being, behavior, and personal growth. This position also requires contributing to school events and activities that support student development and well-being.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide pastoral care to students, offering support through discussions, practical resolutions, and engagement with parents/carers as appropriate.
  • Serve as the main contact for pastoral issues, collaborating with the Head of Year and senior leadership.
  • Motivate and involve students in key events internally and externally.
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities and contribute to supervision during before school, lunch, and support groups.
  • Work with Heads of Year to promote and manage student attendance and punctuality.
  • Liaison with Staff and Agencies: Collaborate with SENCDO, School Counsellor, and to support student well-being.
  • Assist with investigating incidents and implementing behaviour sanctions in collaboration with Heads of Year.
  • Provide on-call support in classrooms and supervise students in the Reflection Room.
  • Complete administrative duties including data input, preparing reports, and supporting parent meetings.
  • Work with staff to promote student health and well-being.
  • Uphold and promote the school’s safeguarding policies and responsibilities.
  • Actively engage with the school community.
  • Assist in extra-curricular activities and other school responsibilities.
  • Participate in training and development activities.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the Headteacher
