About Sherborne Qatar School for Boys

Sherborne Qatar School for Boys is the newest of the Sherborne Qatar Schools (five in total) having only being established in September 2024. We are a small, ‘start-up’ school (with only 118 pupils so far) with a small, welcoming and friendly staff, operating on a lovely, spacious site. As a start-up we expect all staff to be ready to ‘pitch in’ wherever required. Policies, Procedures, teaching materials and resources are all currently being developed and embedded so if you are expecting a ‘finished school’ this is not the place for you.

We want staff who are excited about the challenge of setting up a new school, want to be valued as professionals who are able to ‘have a say’; are wanting to work as part of a team to develop and perfect the curriculum and meaningful lessons, and are driven, hardworking, positive, solution focused people, rather than those with a ‘glass half empty’ approach. A start- up is not easy, can sometimes be a little chaotic but is highly rewarding as you see the school growing and daily operations becoming smoother in time.

At this school the head and SLT know all the staff, get to know all the pupils, and are often seen in lessons and around the corridors. We are trying to establish a school with a STEM education focus, a slightly alternative curriculum that suits and caters for the learning style of boys, and a school that embraces Bring your Own Device from Year 1. We want to establish a school ‘with a heart’ and one in which everyone is equal and valued. The pace of development is fast, staff have to work hard, but they learn so much in such a short time. We are using the most up to date, educational packages and operating tools in our school as utilised in the UK.

Our school will eventually grow to have three form entry from Pre School to Year 12, with small class sizes (20 pupils maximum in each class) and two separate buildings on site housing the Primary and Secondary sections. To date our cohort is 100% Arabic first language speaking pupils and 93% Qatari nationals so it is true to say that you will need to have an appreciation of how to teach pupils whose second language is English. Our staff are all UK trained apart from our wonderful Arabic, Islamic and Qatar History staff who are all first language Arabic speakers.

For the academic year 2025-2026 we will have two classes in Pre School to Year 6. Class sizes for the classes are as follows:

  • Pre School:16-18 pupils per class;
  • Reception: 18-20 pupils per class;
  • Year 1 to Year 6: 20-22 pupils per class.

There will be a teaching assistant or classroom assistant in all classes from Pre School to Year 2 and shared learning support in classes from Year 3-6.

Our building is quite old but full of small spaces that can be utilised creatively. The outdoor space is plentiful in that we have a small hall, a large multipurpose sports hall, an astroturf area and two large play spaces for the pupils. It is the outdoor space that is the most attractive feature of our site.

Our school works closely with the staff at the Bani Hajer Prep School Site and with the staff from the Mall or Qatar, Sherborne School site.

We are looking for energetic, positive, motivated teachers, who are really eager to come and make a difference, whilst working in collaboration with the existing small team. We would like staff of all different ages (up to age 49), male or female, newly qualified or more experienced. We ask for QTS, that you are a UK national and that you are ready to start a new adventure for a minimum duration of two years.
