RAK Academy (Khuzam)

RAK Academy (Khuzam) provides both primary and secondary British and IB learning pathways from Pre-K to Grade 12 for 1650 international and local students.

Secondary School

The school is centrally located in the beautiful and peaceful emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The British curriculum is offered from Grade 6 (Year 7) to Grade 12 (Year 13). All students study IGCSE courses in Grades 9 and 10 and then can opt to follow an A-level pathway or the International Baccalaureate Pathway in Grades 11 and 12. Students also study additional subjects as stipulated by the Ministry of Education (MOE). RAK Academy is accredited by the British Schools Overseas (BSO) and International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).

The Role

The secondary school is looking for a positive, driven and inspirational Progress Leader to join the school’s middle management team. The Progress Leader will ensure student attendance is monitored and meets both the MOE and Academy’s policy for graduation and track students’ attainment and progress to ensure it meets the targets set out within the School Improvement Plan (SIP).

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 1 year teaching experience

Desirable

  • National Professional Qualification Leading Teaching (NPQML)

JOB PURPOSE
To support the Progress leader with promoting the vision, aims and ethos of RAK Academy by providing professional leadership, and staff development through a model of coaching to secure improvement in achievement and attainment for all students. The Progress Leader will ensure student attendance is monitored and meets both the MOE and Academy’s policy for graduation and track students’ attainment and progress to ensure it meets the targets set out within the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and 3-year Strategic plan.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning
Line Management

  • To lead the team of practitioners to ensure optimum outcomes for all students.
  • To design and deliver an ‘Outstanding’ tutor time programme that is quality assured.
  • To hold individual tutors to account for their overall pastoral contribution.
  • Manage and develop tutoring teams.
     

Strategic

  • To analyze, interpret and present data relating to student progress, behavior and attendance.
  • To set and deliver the strategic approach to Raising Standards across the applicable school phase.
  • To identify, monitor and deliver interventions designed to raise standards across the applicable school phase. These will be aimed at students whose attendance, punctuality, academic progress, academic attainment and/or behavior fail to meet the ‘Very Good’ descriptor as set out by the MOE Inspection Framework.
  • Oversight and co-ordination of students withdrawn/dropping certain subjects, as delegated by the Deputy Head of School.
  • Put in place a programme of peer mentors that is targeted and measured to have an impact.
  • Monitor very carefully ‘in-house variation’ across student groups to identify issues and interventions and support
    as required.
  • Liaise with Senior Leadership Team and SENCO to monitor the impact of strategic interventions.
  • Provide close support to the Student Leadership Coordinator and ECA Coordinator in increasing participation rates.
     

Operational

  • Meet with parents as appropriate to build effective relationships.
  • Disseminate information to parents in a proactive and timely fashion.
  • Help to ensure high quality assessment and report writing.
  • To organize Information and Parent Evenings.
  • Using assemblies to motivate students in and reward their effort and any personal achievements, linking to raising levels of progress.
  • Develop and inform students of expectations concerning classroom procedures and behavior in order to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Maintain ‘non-negotiables’ of behavior for learning across relevant grade-groups, working with all stakeholders to ensure exceptional standards of student ethos are upheld in all key areas.
  • Monitor attendance and progress in line with the Academy’s Graduation Policy.
  • Attend meetings as required by the Head teacher, Deputy Head teacher and Line Manager.

     

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Standards
 

  • Motivate staff and students to develop and implement classroom-based, developmentally appropriate interventions for individuals and groups of students to raise standards.
  • Co-ordinate whole school cohort specific intervention/revision programme.
  • Co-ordinate tutors to facilitate intervention and support.
  • Train/support staff on effective intervention strategies and effective use of data.
  • Develop a bank of best practice interventions for staff.
  • Evaluate the impact of any interventions through a ‘Plan-Do-Review’ Cycle.

Gifted and Talented

  • Develop comprehensive frameworks for the identification of Gifted and Talented students which includes the use of student outcome data, academic performance, unique or accelerated talent and exceptional performance across defined areas.
  • Build Gifted and Talented teams across the academy to drive forward programs to support high achievers and focus on best practice and current educational research.
  • Contribute to school improvement plans and promote school improvement through identifying realistic and challenging targets for Gifted and Talented students.
  • Ensure that Gifted and Talented student achievement levels match or exceed target levels and provide recommendations and help to implement sustainable improvement strategies.

Other Professional Requirements
 

  • Attend and participate in all school meetings and CPD events.
  • Take an active part in the life of the school and Academy.
  • Attend Parent Evenings as required.
  • Communicate regularly and positively with all parents.
  • Participate in whole school celebrations and events across the academies as directed.
  • Contribute to the marketing of the school and the whole academy.
  • Have excellent attendance and punctuality records.
  • Adhere to the Academy’s code of professional standards.
  • Adhere to the Academy’s Policies.
  • Ensure high standards of Health and Safety within the department.
  • Manage the department’s finances efficiently.
